February 28, 2023
Washington – Today, President Joe Biden nominated Julie Su to serve as Secretary of Labor. The International Leadership Foundation applauds the announcement.
Linh Hoang, Executive Director of the International Leadership Foundation (ILF), gave the following statement:
“Julie Su is eminently qualified to serve as our next Secretary of Labor. She is best positioned to create opportunities and expand our nation’s economy. As Deputy Secretary, Su has been an indispensable leader within the Department of Labor, partnering with leadership across the government to solve national crises and build a more inclusive economy for all Americans. Su brings valuable perspective and lived experience as a daughter of immigrants, an Asian American, and a woman of color to the role of Secretary of Labor, ensuring all communities are prioritized in the workforce.”
Su is currently serving as Deputy Secretary of Labor. She previously served as the Labor Secretary for California and as the California Labor Commissioner. Prior to her government service, she worked as a civil rights attorney representing workers who are often invisible. Her work earned her a MacArthur “genius” award. The daughter of immigrants, Su is a graduate of Stanford University and Harvard Law School.
If confirmed, she will be the first Asian American Cabinet Secretary to serve in the Biden administration.
