On Wednesday night, ILF had our year-end dinner at Seven Seas Restaurant in Rockville, MD to thank all of the hardworking local media and to celebrate the achievements of our ILF DC advisors!
At the start of the program, Fellow alumni, Justin Lee and John Maysaysay, both shared with attendees their experiences as Fellows and how that has helped them get to where they are today. Justin is at the Bipartisan Policy Center and John is serving with the State Department as a Foreign Service Officer.
This year has been a year of great achievements for ILF DC advisors. ILF CEO, Chiling Tong, was recently appointed by Senator Mitch McConnell to the Board of Directors of the U.S. Congress Congressional Award for young leaders. Ms. Erica Hayes, National Director of the Congressional Award, came and spoke about the award. In addition to the Board for the Congressional Award, Tong was also appointed to Maryland’s Commission on Asian Pacific Americans Affairs. Ms. Christina Wong Poy, Administrative Director of the Commission, also shared a few words about the Commission.
ILF DC Advisors, Corinna Shen and Rose Li, were also honored with appointments by Maryland Governor Hogan this year. Ms. Shen was appointed to Maryland Women’s Commission and Dr. Li was appointed to Maryland’s Commission on Aging. Dr. Li once served as the Public Liaison and Chief of the Population and Social Processes Branch in the Behavioral and Social Research Division of the National Institute on Aging.
DC chapter Chair, Jeff Hwang, and his wife, Sherry Hwang, were honored with the Distinguished Alumni Award from their alma mater, Georgia State University. Not only are they successful business owners, but they have both done tremendous work for the community through ILF, Tzu Chi, and the American Red Cross.
