On Friday, April 11, 2015, ILF organized a happy hour get-together at Hotel Pod 39 Bar in New York City for NYC area ILF Fellow alumni. While they enjoyed happy hour specials, they were able to network with one another and catch up on their post-ILF career and achievements. Although the alumni had one huge common connection—their ILF Fellowship experience with interning for a federal agency—they ended up studying and working in a wide array of fields and interests. Many alumni, for example, ended up studying at top universities in the U.S., such as Columbia University, Cornell University, University of Pittsburgh, and Brown University, among others. Other alumni are working professionals in the fields of law, education, finance, politics, etc. “It is extremely rewarding to witness how our brilliant fellows are now implementing their leadership skills through community service and excellence in all different fields as a leader,” said Soo-Kyung Koo, ILF Program Director and Chief of Staff. “They are recognized as young leaders who deeply understand the value of education and giving back to their community. They are expanding upon and exercising what they learned from ILF through their career, further studies, and social activities. ILF is very proud of our Fellow alumni who will have more influence and power nationally and globally as Asian Pacific American leaders. ILF is honored to have the chance to be with them and cultivate their potential.”

ILF Fellow alumni had the opportunity to reflect upon their experiences and how ILF contributed to their professional development and networks. “ILF has broadened my experience in the public sector, particularly in the intersections of public education, public policy, and the academy,” said Crystal Chen, 2008 ILF Fellow. “ILF ignited my passion for public service and my desire to continue to build the capacity of public schools across the United States.” As the start of summer and the 2015 ILF Fellowship program approaches, ILF hopes to connect our bright former Fellows with our new class of Fellows for support and guidance as they, too, begin their public service and professional development journey
