ILF Extends Deepest Condolences Over the Passing of Mrs. Leeshan Birney, ILF Houston Advisory Board Chair

The International Leadership Foundation (ILF) sends deepest condolences over the passing of ILF Houston Advisory Board Chair Leeshan Chuang Birney.
ILF Chairman Dr. Paul Hsu said, “The name of Leeshan Birney is widely known in the Asian Pacific American community. Our people will never forget her enormous contribution and dedication to empowering our communities and next generations. We are proud of her legacy and leadership she built and practiced throughout her whole life.”
Ms. Birney is the Founder of Stone Mountain Properties in New Jersey and Texas, engaged in purchasing and renovating properties. She also developed Sun Blossom International Villages, which provides beautiful environments and innovative services in residential programs. This project was chosen as a principle community model for the Asian community tour of The Neighborhood U.S.A. Conference hosted by the City of Houston in May 2002.
Mrs. Birney maintained extensive involvement with the community and regularly participated and contributed generously to civic, community, and educational groups, with roles as: a Director in the Houston Housing Finance Corporation, a Marketing Committee Chairman on the Asian American Business Council (AABC), the Chair of ILF Houston Advisory Board, the Board Member of the Asian Chamber of Commerce, the Advisory Board Member of the Chinese Community Center, an Advisor Abroad for the Global Federation of Chinese Business Women, a Member of the Fundraising Committee for the Asian Chamber of Commerce, a Planning Board Commissioner in the City of Houston, an Honorable Vice Chairman in the Houston of Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce, and a Board Member of Dance of Asian American.
Along with a myriad of honors, Mrs. Birney was awarded for her dedication and commitment with the Outstanding Chinese Entrepreneur Award (2010), the ILF-Regional Leadership Award (2010), the State of Texas-Yellow Rose of Texas Award (2010), the Chinese Community Center-Excellence of Community Development Award (2009), the Texas State Representative-SW Houston and Chinatown Improvements Commendation (2009), the Chinese Professional Club-Corporate Impact Award (2008), and the University of Houston Law Center Arrivals Awards for Immigrant Achievement (2007). Mrs. Birney received an M.B.A. from New York University (NYU) in Economics, an M.S. at Columbia University in Nutrition.
ILF Founding President Ms. Chiling Tong said, “Students supported by her have become one of the greatest young leaders in various professional fields, practicing leadership and wisdom they learned from her. She was a true leader, pioneer, trailblazer, and philanthropist. We are deeply saddened by our loss and we will love her forever. We will stay with her families and friends.”
