2017 ILF Federal Career Fair Takes Off

On Thursday, July 20, 2017, ILF held its first-ever Federal Career Fair. The ILF Federal Career Fair is a new extension of the ILF Civic Fellowship program meant to benefit the wider realm of D.C. young professionals, current working professionals, and other Asian Pacific American students and interns. It is hosted by ILF and open to the public. The fair provides an opportunity for participants to discuss their public service interest and passion with current federal employees and to learn what specific procedures they need to go through and how to improve themselves in order to land a federal job. Participating agencies advertise what they do for people and communities, promote federal diversity and inclusion, and discover the talent and ambition they need to provide better service to citizens. Since the Career Fair is hosted in conjunction with ILF’s Emerging Leaders Policy Forum and annual Luncheon simultaneously at the same venue, participating federal agencies/offices have great exposure to their target audience.

“Though I had never really thought about a federal career before this, I greatly appreciated the opportunity to attend the ILF Federal Career Fair. I discovered the wide array of jobs available, many of which suit my major and interests, and my interactions with the representatives felt very personal and authentic, as they were genuinely interested in engaging with us. Mr. John Moses, Deputy Director at the SEC, with whom I spoke briefly on the tour, was also present at the career fair. He remembered me and even introduced me to his colleagues. He was truly invested in guiding us as individuals! Overall, attending the career fair was a great experience through which I gained new, eye-opening perspectives.” – Kathryn Jian, 2017 ILF Fellow
